operations at Kedarnath
National Disaster Response Force
(NDRF) teams today screened out the areas of Kedarnath, Jungle Chatti,
Gaurikund, Guptkashi, Sonprayag, Bhairav Chatti and Gaddi in Uttarakhand and
rescued 59 persons. Besides this, the teams of NDRF and Indo Tibetan Border
Police (ITBP) recovered Rs.1,14,83,360 from plunderers. NDRF used Unmanned
Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to screen the whole area of Kedarnath axis to rule out the
presence of survivors in the inaccessible places.
Till now, NDRF has rescued 5941 persons and retrieved 125 dead bodies by search and rescue operations besides helping civil administration in distributing relief materials.
More than 200 ITBP expert mountaineers have constructed a rope bridge on Alakananda river at Lambagad with three ropes. This has tripled the number of victims being evacuated through rope. By 1200 hrs. today, ITBP has evacuated about 500 yatris through this rope bridge.

Weather
Army’s search, rescue and relief operations
continued through out the day inspite of inclement weather conditions. In
Badrinath Sector, 281 people moved by land route after the construction of
Burma bridge across Alaknanda at Lam Bagar on Joshimath – Badrinath road. Army
today created Heli Bridge at Lam Bagar in addition to the foot bridge. Heli
shuttle service continued till reports last came in. Two Army Helicopters and
three civil helicopter ferried people from Badrinath today. 800 people moved
towards Joshimath today with 450 using heli Bridge and the balance using Burma
Bridge of Army. Army aviators challenged weather in Badrinath Valley to
transport people in inclement weather conditions.
In Uttarkashi sector, MI 17 helicopters made 16 sorties evacuating 402 people helicopter from Harsil while 683 people reached Uttarkashi by foot. Foot/vehicle based evacuation continued throughout the day. Army established staging areas stocked with food, water and medicines at Sukhi and Gagnani for the evacuees.
Following intermittent rainfall today, a number of land slides occurred on road Rishikesh – Rudraprayag although route ahead to Joshimath remained open. Approximately 1400 people are awaiting evacuation at Harsil, 50 at Dharali and 60 at Jhala on Uttarkashi axis and approx 5000 at Badrinath. Army established food distribution centres at Govindghat and Joshimath.
In the Kedarnath sector, Army special troops with mountaineering skills continued search and rescue operations to link up with stranded people, if any, between Jungle Chatti and Rama Bara. Intensive combing operations are on till reports last came in.
Despite inclement weather conditions predicted for next two days, Army’s relentless efforts to provide succor, rescue and relief will continue 24x7.

Railways to carry relief
material for Uttarakhand free of cost
The Ministry of Railways
has decided that relief material, viz. food, medicines, clothes, building
materials, utensils etc, will be carried to Uttarakhand free of cost by
coaching trains for a period of 15 days, i.e. from 25.06.2013 to 09.07.2013.
The relief material will be consigned to the District Magistrate of the concerned district on production of a certificate from the consignor that the consignment is a gift in kind or has been purchased with the funds donated by public for flood victims and has not been paid for by the Government or any of its agencies.
No claim for any loss or damage to consignment carried under this arrangement will be entertained unless it is clearly proved that the loss or damage took place due to willful negligence on the part of the Railways.
