THE MORTAL REMAINS OF THE WARRIORS OF THE FIRST WAR OF INDIAN INDEPENDENCE
The
year 1857, marks the beginning of The
first war for independence started as a `Sepoy mutiny` against the East India
Company, and soon escalated into a revolt by kings and civilians in northern
and central India.
After 157 years, This year,
The historians have retrieved fifteen skeletons from a well here, belonging to
people who took part in the 1857 Mutiny against the British. The bones and skulls were discovered by archaeologists in
Ajnala, about 30km from the city of Amritsar, Human remains, thought to be
rebel soldiers massacred by British troops during the bloody 1857 Mutiny, have
been found at the bottom of a well near a Sikh Gurudwara.
Sardar Amarjit Singh Sarkaria said the Punjab government
records showed that 282 Indian soldiers from the 26th Native Infantry were
imprisoned by the British at Ajnala and further stated that they were all
executed and the bodies dumped in 'Martyrs' Well' by British troops
during the infamous uprising, known in India as the First War of Indian Independence.
The
bodies of the warriors might have perished but not their SPIRITS.
